Cub Spotlight Student
Football Seniors Cub Spotlight
This week’s Cub Spotlight is focused on the seniors from the Bi-District Champion Cub football team. Carlos Gonzales, Wyatt Hodges, Jordan Demps, JaQuay Nolan and Carlos Gonzales stopped by to talk about their big win.
Two of these names are new to the Cub program. They are Wyatt Hodges, offensive guard, and JaQuay Nolan, free safety and wide receiver. Wyatt came to Brownfield from Long Beach, California, and JaQuay from Odessa. Both of them have been great acquisitions for the Cubs on both sides of the ball.
Carlos Martinez and Carlos Gonzales are staples in the Cub locker room. Carlos Martinez has been a starting lineman for the Cubs for three seasons, while Carlos Gonzales has solidified his starting spot on defense as an outside linebacker. Carlos Martinez and Wyatt both talked about how the offensive line is one of the best they have ever been on, and they are really a family that has been working hard since two-a-days to be one of the best in the state. Carlos Gonzales, though he may be the smallest on the team, plays with more heart and emotion than most big guys do. His relentless effort and determination have willed him to becoming a big time play maker for the Cub defense.
JaQuay Nolan and Jordan Demps have been leaned on heavily this season by freshman quarterback Jaylen Nolan. Jordan Demps has continued his great play as a top receiver in the state, while JaQuay has made some big catches in big moments throughout the season.
This group of young men have helped lead the Cubs to their first Bi-District Championship in over a decade, and they don’t want it to stop there. The Cubs will play State Ranked Wall Saturday at Ratliff Stadium at 6:30pm. Coverage for the game will begin at 6pm on towntalkradio.com. Tune in to hear the Cubs as they play for the area championship. Good luck and Sic ‘Em Cubs!!!
