Cub Spotlight Student
Nathan Besler Cub Spotlight
This week’s Cub Spotlight is sophomore Nathan Besler. You may remember him if you came out and watched the Cub Football team. Number 88 on the field, Nathan made a lasting impression on defenses as he ran through their secondary catching passes and becoming one of his quarterback’s favorite targets. Nathan describes his season as just the beginning of what he hopes is going to be a great career in a Cub uniform. Nathan spent all of last year and the summer working out through Cub Captains Camp with the goal of making the Varsity Football Team as a sophomore. His hard work paid off in a big way, and he continues to work out even after football, looking forward to next season.
Now Nathan is enjoying his second season as a Cub Powerlifter. In one year Nathan has increased his bench press max by 40 pounds and his squat max by 100 pounds. Nathan has been a strong competitor this year in the 181 weight class, finishing in the top ten in every meet this year with his best finish coming last week in Lubbock Roosevelt. Nathan is just a few spots out of the top ten which would advance him to the regional meet coming up in two weeks.
Nathan’s typical workout day includes weights, running, and agility after school for off season, powerlifting training followed by a track workout and then over to One Act Play. Then when he gets home, he has to do homework and study. Nathan is currently cast as a soldier in the upcoming play where he hopes to advance to the state competition.
We look forward to two more years from Nathan and wish him luck with the rest of the season. Go Cubs!
